Shirley Nolan Lecture

The call for the WMDA community to nominate a winner of the Shirley Nolan Award has now been closed.

The recipient will deliver the ‘Shirley Nolan Lecture’ at the 16th International Donor Registry Conference in Chennai. This award is given by Anthony Nolan after thoughtful review of nominations by the Selection Committee, recognising an individual who has made significant contributions to the fields of donor registries, cord blood banking and donor provision.

Who was Shirley Nolan?
When Shirley Nolan’s baby boy, Anthony, was born in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant she was determined to do everything to save him. But in those days, there was no register of potential stem cell donors, making her search for the stranger that could save him impossible. Therefore Shirley set up the world’s first stem cell register in her son’s name.

Announcement
The award recipient will be announced publicly in WMDA’s newsletter, Stem Cell Matters – make sure to stay tuned!

We look forward to the insights and inspiration the eventual winner will bring at IDRC 2027 in Chennai.
